A specialized strike team from the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-5) has successfully neutralised a potential security threat following a midnight swoop in the Tanore Upazila of Rajshahi. The operation, executed with clinical precision during the early hours of Sunday, led to the recovery of a diverse array of illegal firearms and live ammunition. Based on actionable intelligence regarding the movement of contraband, the Rajshahi Headquarter Company launched simultaneous raids across three separate domestic premises, uncovering a stockpile that points toward organised criminal or militant activity in the region.
The search operations focused on the village of Chuniyapara, where the elite forces meticulously combed through residential properties used as clandestine storage sites. In a series of startling discoveries, the weaponry was found cleverly camouflaged within rural outbuildings. At the homestead of one Entaz Ali, a foreign-made pistol and ammunition were unearthed from beneath a pile of kitchen firewood situated behind a cattle shed. Similar concealment methods were employed at the residences of Abdus Sobhan and a man named Joynal, where improvised firearms were found stashed under logs in their respective fuel sheds.
The sheer variety of the seized hardware has caused significant alarm among local authorities. The haul included not only finished weaponry—such as a wooden-handled foreign pistol and multiple pipe guns—but also a collection of narrow pipes and mechanical spares. This suggests that the locations may have served as a temporary depot for an illegal arms-manufacturing cell. The recovery of twelve shotgun cartridges and five rounds of pistol ammunition further underscores the lethal intent of those behind the cache.

While the physical evidence is now in state custody, the perpetrators remain at large. Local residents questioned during the operation claimed to be unaware of the origin of the weapons, stating that the items must have been planted or abandoned by outsiders. The “abandoned” status of the firearms suggests that the suspects may have been alerted to the approaching RAB units and fled the scene moments before the cordon was established.
Shahinuijaman Shahin, the Officer-in-Charge of Tanore Police Station, confirmed that all recovered items have been documented and placed under heavy guard. “We are currently in the process of initiating formal legal proceedings,” he remarked, adding that a multi-agency investigation is now underway to identify the owners of these properties and trace the logistical chain of the foreign-made pistol.
