Maria Messi Hospitalised After Car Crash

Maria Sol, the younger sister of football superstar Lionel Messi, was involved in a severe road accident in Miami, United States, while driving a pickup truck. The incident left her with serious injuries, including burns on several parts of her body and damage to her spinal cord. Argentine media outlet Clarín reported that as a result of the accident, Maria’s wedding, originally scheduled for 3 January, has been postponed.

According to Clarín, Maria personally confirmed the accident. Her mother, Celia, and Argentine journalist and television presenter Ángel de Brito also provided updates to the media. The 32-year-old is currently out of immediate danger, though she will require several days of rest to make a full recovery. Celia explained that Maria collided with a wall while driving the pickup truck, rendering her unconscious. The crash resulted in fractures to both her ankle and wrist.

Maria had been preparing to marry long-time partner Julián “Tuli” Arellano in Rosario on 3 January next year. The couple, who have been together for 12 years, first met during their adolescence in La Bajada, a southern district of Rosario. Julián, now assistant coach for Inter Miami’s under-19 team, previously played football alongside Messi’s brothers at a local club in Rosario. He also attended Messi’s wedding to Antonela Roccuzzo in 2017.

Away from the public eye, Maria is a successful entrepreneur residing in Rosario. She owns and operates Bikinis Río, a brand specialising in women’s swimwear, alongside her fashion design work.
