While many modern malls stay open, several traditional markets and important educational museums follow a specific weekend schedule.

Shopping Centres Closed on Fridays:

A significant portion of markets in Old Dhaka and surrounding areas observe their weekly holiday on Friday. These include Azimpur Super Market, Gulistan Hawkers Market, Farashganj Timber Market, and the wholesale shops of Shyambazar. Other prominent markets such as Samad Super Market, Rahmania Super Market, Idris Super Market, Dayaganj Bazar, Dhupkhola Maath Bazar, Chawk Bazar, and Babu Bazar also remain closed. Additionally, Naya Bazar, Kaptan Bazar, Rajdhani Super Market, Dayaganj City Corporation Market, and the famous cloth stores of Islampur do not operate on this day. Wholesale hubs like Choto Katra, Boro Katra, Sharif Mansion, Phulbaria Market, and Sandra Super Market are also part of this list.

Sightseeing Spots Closed on Fridays:

  1. Military Museum: Located at Bijoy Sarani, this impressive museum is open daily from 10:30 am to 4:00 pm. However, it remains closed every Thursday and Friday for its weekly break.

  2. National Museum of Science and Technology, Agargaon: This hub for science enthusiasts is closed on Thursdays and Fridays. It operates from Saturday to Wednesday between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm with an entry fee of only 5 BDT. Furthermore, on Saturdays and Sundays, sky observation via telescope is available from 6:00 pm for a 10 BDT ticket.

  3. Shishu Academy Museum: Catering primarily to children, this museum observes its weekly holiday on Friday and Saturday. It remains open from Sunday to Thursday, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
