Massive Fire Breaks Out at Coil Factory in Gazipur

A major fire erupted at the Phoenix Coil Factory in the Bager Bazar area of Gazipur on Wednesday, 19 November, around noon, prompting a swift response from the Fire Service. Seven units have been deployed to bring the blaze under control, with firefighters working tirelessly to prevent further escalation.

According to sources from the Gazipur Fire Service Control Room, the first two units arrived at the scene shortly after the fire was reported. As the intensity of the flames grew, five additional units were dispatched to assist in containment efforts. Firefighters faced considerable challenges due to the factory’s large warehouse space and the presence of highly flammable materials, including metal coils and coil trolleys.

At present, the exact cause of the fire remains unknown, and officials are yet to determine the full extent of the damage. Preliminary reports indicate that the factory’s shed, several coils, and trolley equipment have been destroyed. No casualties have been reported so far, and the factory’s employees had reportedly evacuated the premises before the fire spread.

Local residents expressed shock at the intensity of the blaze, with many watching from a distance as thick black smoke billowed from the factory. Some reported hearing explosions as the fire reached storage areas containing industrial materials. Fire Service personnel have cordoned off the area to ensure the safety of nearby communities and to facilitate the ongoing firefighting operation.

Industrial experts note that such incidents often cause substantial economic losses, especially in factories storing large quantities of metal coils and heavy machinery. They stress the importance of fire safety measures, including proper storage of flammable materials, the installation of fire alarms, and regular safety drills for employees.
