The staff officer to the Commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Masud Rana, has been removed from his current responsibilities and reassigned to another department within the force as part of an internal administrative transfer.
According to an official order issued by the DMP, Masud Rana has been transferred to the organisation’s City Research and Development (R&D) Division, where he will serve as an Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC). The transfer took effect through an office order signed by Mohammad Sarwar Alam, Deputy Commissioner (Headquarters and Administration, Additional Charge), on Thursday, 25 June.
The development was later confirmed to members of the media on Friday by Faiz Islam, Special Assistant to the DMP Commissioner and an Additional Deputy Commissioner.
Although the official notification confirmed the reassignment, it did not specify any reason for Masud Rana’s transfer. Such internal reshuffles are not uncommon within the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, where officers are periodically reassigned to different units in accordance with organisational requirements, administrative planning, or operational needs.
As the country’s largest metropolitan police force, the DMP regularly implements transfers across its various specialised and administrative divisions to strengthen institutional efficiency and ensure that personnel are deployed where their expertise is considered most effective. These changes can involve operational units, investigative branches, headquarters staff, or research and planning departments.
The City Research and Development Division, where Masud Rana has now been posted, is responsible for conducting research, analysing policing strategies, evaluating operational practices, and supporting policy development aimed at improving law enforcement services in the capital. The division plays a supporting role in enhancing organisational performance by studying emerging challenges and recommending improvements to policing methods and administrative processes.
Masud Rana had been serving as the staff officer to the DMP Commissioner before this latest transfer, a position that involves assisting the Commissioner with administrative coordination, official communications, and organisational matters.
The DMP has not announced any further details regarding the appointment of a successor to the position of the Commissioner’s staff officer, nor has it provided additional information about the circumstances surrounding the administrative change. The transfer order remains the only official statement issued on the matter.
