“Message from Jamaat leader: Will assume responsibility if joining Awami League”

Latifur Rahman, the senior leader of Jamaat in Chapainawabganj district, has recently announced that the party will assume responsibilities for any interested leaders joining from the Awami League or BNP. He further claimed that the party would also manage administrative and legal affairs in Nawabganj.

He made these remarks during a courtyard meeting on the afternoon of Tuesday, 30 December, at Fatapara Madanmor area in Charbagdanga Union, Chapainawabganj Sadar Upazila. A video of the meeting has circulated widely on social media.

Latifur Rahman stated, “Join our party from the Awami League or BNP. Do not compare Jamaat with its previous state—it is now a strong organisation. I am overseeing all issues in Nawabganj. Those who join from the Awami League will be able to work here freely. We will take responsibility for legal matters and the courts. We want everyone to unite with us.”

He added, “I am also the son of a family of martyrs from 1971. From 1969 to 1975, I worked for the independence of our country. I became a Muslim in 1976. Today, those who were in the Awami League are joining Jamaat. The police will not create any obstacles for them.”

Latifur Rahman also extended an invitation to Hindu and BNP leaders, saying, “Everyone can join us. No one will be treated as a criminal. Full security will be provided to those who come.”

Emphasising party unity and the importance of Islamic education, he said, “We cannot forget the oppression our leaders faced. Many leaders were executed or disappeared. Therefore, it is our duty to educate the people about the true principles of Islam.”
