Inter Miami CF began their Major League Soccer campaign with a disappointing defeat, falling 3–0 to Los Angeles FC in a highly anticipated season opener that ultimately failed to live up to expectations for the Florida side.

Much of the pre-match narrative centred on whether Lionel Messi would feature at all. Messi remained on the pitch for the full duration but looked far from his usual self. He frequently lost possession and lacked the fluidity and precision that typically define his performances. For a player of his calibre, it was an unusually subdued display, perhaps understandable given his recent return from injury and the fact that this was his first competitive appearance of the year.

This figure represents the second-highest attendance in MLS history, underlining the global appeal of both Messi and Son, as well as the growing stature of the league.

A further goal might have been added by Los Angeles after the break, but Bouanga failed to convert from another well-crafted pass by Son. Nevertheless, the result was never in doubt, as Miami’s defensive frailties and attacking inefficiency proved costly.
