Microbus Fire Disrupts Dhaka Highway

A sudden fire engulfed a passenger microbus on the Dhaka–Aricha Highway in Savar on Tuesday, causing brief panic among commuters and a temporary disruption to traffic flow. The incident occurred at around 12:30 pm in the Dhaka-bound lane near the Bismail Cantonment area.

According to eyewitness accounts, the vehicle was travelling at normal speed when smoke was noticed emerging from the engine compartment. The driver reacted promptly, steering the microbus to the roadside and assisting passengers in evacuating the vehicle without delay. Within moments, the smoke intensified into visible flames, rapidly spreading from the engine bay to the front section of the vehicle and eventually engulfing the entire microbus.

The sudden blaze created alarm among nearby motorists and passengers, many of whom moved away from the scene as a precaution. The fire also led to a short-lived slowdown in traffic movement along the busy highway as vehicles were diverted or halted at a safe distance.

Upon receiving reports, two fire service units were dispatched to the location. Firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control after swift intervention. However, by the time the fire was extinguished, the microbus had been completely destroyed by the flames.

Preliminary assessments suggest that the fire may have originated from a mechanical fault in the engine or a possible electrical short circuit. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the incident. No casualties or injuries were reported, a fact confirmed by local police.

A senior officer from Savar Highway Police stated that both police personnel and fire service teams responded promptly to the emergency call, helping to contain the situation and restore order. The burnt-out vehicle was later removed to the highway police station for further examination, and efforts are ongoing to assess the extent of the damage and identify the precise cause of the fire.

Traffic was affected only temporarily, with normal flow restored after the clearance of the incident site.
