Miley Cyrus Eyes Film Songwriting Opportunities

Pop sensation Miley Cyrus has revealed that her attendance at the 2025 Oscars was not purely a glamorous appearance. The singer-songwriter disclosed that she was at the ceremony with the specific aim of positioning herself as a songwriter for the film industry.

Cyrus, who has recently contributed to several high-profile film soundtracks, explained that she prefers a proactive approach, reaching out directly to filmmakers rather than waiting for opportunities to come her way. Earlier this month, she released “Dream As One”, a song written for James Cameron’s acclaimed science-fiction franchise Avatar: Fire and Ash. Previously, she penned “Beautiful That Way” for Pamela Anderson-starrer The Last Showgirl.

In an interview with People magazine, Cyrus elaborated on her approach: “I always put opportunities in front of me. I knew, ‘What are you working on?’ Cameron has been busy with Avatar for years. I just said, ‘If you ever need music, let me know.’ And naturally, it happened.” She also mentioned Cameron’s affectionate reference to their collaborators as “Legends in L.”

Cyrus has adopted a similar strategy with other industry icons, including Jamie Lee Curtis, which led to her involvement in The Last Showgirl. At this year’s Oscars, she made it a point to inform anyone she met that she was available for musical contributions. She has even proposed songs for a potential second season of Netflix’s Baby Reindeer, although the series has yet to announce any official follow-up.

Dream As One, co-written with Andrew Wyatt, Mark Ronson, and Simon Franglen, features in the credits of the third Avatar film and draws creative inspiration from the devastating Los Angeles wildfires earlier this year.

Cyrus’s ambitious ventures underscore her versatility across music and cinema. Her ninth studio album, Something Beautiful, released in May, received a four-star review from NME, which praised it as “a complete artistic statement with a post-genre perspective.” The album’s track “Secrets”, written in collaboration with Fleetwood Mac’s Mick Fleetwood and Lindsey Buckingham, is dedicated to her father, Billy Ray Cyrus.

With her proactive approach and unwavering commitment, Miley Cyrus is positioning herself as more than just a pop icon—she is steadily carving out a place for herself in the world of cinematic music.
