Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is set to unveil its much-anticipated “Mini BCB” office in Sylhet this afternoon, marking the first time the board has established a presence outside Dhaka. While cricket enthusiasts across the region have long awaited the establishment of a full-fledged regional cricket authority, the Sylhet office will initially operate under the supervision of the BCB’s appointed Head of Cricket rather than functioning as an independent regional body.
Amjad Hossain, Head of the BCB’s Media Division, told Prothom Alo, “This initiative is part of our President’s ‘Triple Century Project’. Our goal is to expand cricket across the country. It is not sufficient to operate solely from Dhaka; we need to bring the game closer to players and fans in every corner of Bangladesh. Sylhet has been chosen as the first step in this nationwide expansion.”
The newly inaugurated office will oversee cricket development across Sylhet’s four districts and their respective sub-districts. Responsibilities will include identifying and nurturing local talent, arranging leagues and tournaments, and securing sponsorship and support for cricketing activities. The office will also act as a liaison with the central BCB headquarters in Dhaka whenever additional guidance or resources are required.
Hossain added, “Our long-term vision is for Sylhet to develop into a fully independent cricketing hub. Gradually, we aim to establish a distinct structure with dedicated selectors, coaches, and training facilities. This will ensure that local players have the infrastructure, guidance, and opportunities they need to progress to the national level.”
The launch of the Sylhet Mini BCB has been met with enthusiasm among regional cricket communities, who view the office as a crucial step towards making high-quality coaching, competitive leagues, and administrative support accessible beyond the capital. By placing experienced BCB officials in Sylhet, the board hopes to not only improve talent scouting but also encourage greater grassroots participation in cricket, ensuring the game thrives across all levels of the region.
With the Sylhet office now operational, cricket lovers in the northeast of Bangladesh can look forward to enhanced training programs, structured competitions, and closer collaboration with the national cricketing body—laying the groundwork for the next generation of stars.
