Missing Child Found Dead on Neighbour’s Roof

A six-year-old boy who had been reported missing in Raipura of Narsingdi District was discovered dead on the roof of a neighbour’s unfinished building one day after his disappearance, in an incident that has shocked the local community and prompted a police investigation.

The deceased child, Abdur Rahman, was the son of Shakkur Ali, a migrant worker currently employed in Malaysia. The boy lived with his family in Char Morjal village under Morjal Union of Raipura Upazila. According to residents, the tragic discovery was made on Sunday morning when a neighbour went to the roof of his under-construction house and found the child’s lifeless body lying there.

Local sources said that Abdur Rahman had left his home on Saturday morning after taking a small amount of money from his mother. He reportedly went to a nearby shop to buy snacks. After returning briefly to the vicinity of his house, the child went out again and was not seen thereafter. When he failed to return home, his family members began searching for him throughout the neighbourhood.

Despite hours of searching and enquiries among relatives and villagers, no trace of the child was found. As the day progressed and concern grew, the family filed a missing person report at Raipura Police Station later that night, requesting assistance in locating the boy.

The situation took a tragic turn on Sunday at approximately ten o’clock in the morning. Idris Mia, a neighbour who owns a partially constructed building near the child’s home, went up to the roof to pour water over the newly laid concrete, a common practice to maintain the structure during construction. Upon reaching the rooftop, he was startled to see the body of the missing boy lying motionless.

Idris Mia immediately informed nearby residents and the child’s family. Within a short time, a large number of villagers gathered at the site. The police were then alerted, and officers arrived at the scene shortly afterwards to recover the body and begin preliminary investigative procedures.

Abdur Rahman’s grieving mother described the ordeal as unbearable. She said her son had gone missing on Saturday morning and had not been found despite extensive searches. When the family learned that his body had been discovered on a neighbour’s roof the following morning, they were devastated. According to her statement, the family does not have known enemies in the area. She appealed to authorities to uncover the truth and ensure justice for her son.

Police officials have confirmed that an initial inspection of the body revealed marks of injury around the child’s neck. However, investigators have emphasised that the precise cause of death will only be determined after a full forensic examination and further investigation.

Prabir Kumar Ghosh, an investigating officer at Raipura Police Station, stated that police responded quickly after receiving information about the incident. He explained that a formal inquest report was being prepared and that all possible angles of the case were being examined. Authorities have indicated that legal action will be taken once the circumstances surrounding the child’s death are fully established.
