Missing Teenager Found Dead in Sreemangal Case

A 14-year-old boy who had been missing for two days in Sreemangal upazila of Moulvibazar has been found dead, triggering widespread grief, concern, and renewed calls for a thorough police investigation in the local community.

The deceased, Junayed Mia, was recovered by police on Sunday, 29 March, at approximately 8:30pm from the Kamarpura area of Bade Alisarakul under Bhunbir Union. Law enforcement authorities confirmed the recovery after conducting an intensive search operation following reports of his disappearance.

Victim Identified as Son of Expatriate Father

Junayed Mia, aged 14, was the son of Ramiz Mia, a Bangladeshi expatriate currently residing in Dubai. According to family accounts, the teenager went missing on Friday evening, 27 March, at around 7pm, shortly after leaving his home in Alisarakul village.

Relatives stated that he was last seen near his residence before disappearing without trace, prompting immediate concern among family members, neighbours, and local residents. Initial search efforts began soon after he was reported missing.

Following the boy’s disappearance, the family launched a public appeal for assistance in locating him. His father, Ramiz Mia, used Facebook live to request help and share information about his missing son.

Community members joined the search efforts, but despite widespread mobilisation, the situation ended in tragedy when the boy’s body was recovered two days later.

Family Grief and Allegations Raised

The recovery of Junayed’s body has left his family devastated. In a subsequent Facebook live session following the discovery, his father named several individuals, urging authorities to arrest them and ensure proper legal action in connection with his son’s death.

He also appealed for intervention from local political leaders, including the area’s Member of Parliament, as well as other respected community figures, requesting immediate steps to ensure justice and a transparent investigation.

Sreemangal Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Zahirul Islam Munna confirmed the recovery of the body at around 10:30pm on Sunday. He said police were actively working at the scene and had already initiated investigative procedures.

“We are currently at the location and investigating the incident,” he stated. “Legal measures will be taken in accordance with due process.”
