Mobile Court Fines Parties for Election Code Breach

In Noakhali’s Subarnachar, a mobile court has imposed fines on two election offices belonging to the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami for violations of the electoral code of conduct. The action was carried out on Sunday evening (1 February) at Al-Amin Bazaar in Charwapda Union, aiming to ensure a fair and peaceful election environment.

The mobile court was presided over by Chenmong Rakhaine, Subarnachar Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate. He stated that both offices were penalised for unauthorised decorative lighting and the display of coloured posters, which contravened election regulations. “Maintaining a lawful and peaceful electoral environment is a core administrative responsibility. We will take strict action against anyone who violates the electoral code,” he emphasised.

During the operation, members of the police, armed forces, and other joint security units were present, facilitating the smooth conduct of the mobile court and helping to maintain order in the market and surrounding areas.

According to the court’s ruling, the fines imposed are as follows:

The administration noted that mobile courts are conducting regular field operations to uphold the electoral code and ensure a peaceful atmosphere ahead of voting. Such measures are deemed essential to prevent illegal activities during election campaigns, including unauthorised lighting, colourful posters outside candidate campaigns, disorderly gatherings, or violent incidents.

Local residents welcomed the initiative, noting that “If everything proceeds smoothly during elections, citizens can vote without fear. Operations like this are reassuring.”

Assistant Commissioner Chenmong Rakhaine added that mobile court operations would continue regularly. “Election offices and candidates are urged to comply with the law. Those who violate the rules will face strict penalties, ensuring a peaceful and orderly electoral environment,” he said.

This initiative is being regarded as a model of responsible local governance. Ahead of the election, maintaining law and order, ensuring public safety, and securing a free and fair voting process remain the administration’s priority. Additionally, workshops, awareness campaigns, and media updates are being used to educate voters, helping them make informed choices while keeping the conduct of candidates and parties under control.
