Mohammedan Sign Four Bashundhara Kings Players

Mohammedan Sporting Club are assembling an ambitious squad for the new football season, with the club aiming to mount a serious challenge for the league title. The Dhaka-based side have now confirmed the signing of five more players, including four who were part of reigning league champions Bashundhara Kings.

The latest additions are national team defender Saad Uddin, forward Faisal Ahmed Fahim, midfielder Sohel Rana Junior and forward Shahriar Emon, all of whom were associated with Bashundhara Kings. Mohammedan have also retained centre-back Shakil Ahad Topu, who played for the club last season.

The five players are all members of Bangladesh’s national football set-up, strengthening Mohammedan’s domestic core ahead of the new campaign. Saad, Topu and Fahim, in particular, have been regular choices in the national team’s starting line-up, giving the club further experience in key areas of the pitch.

The latest signings come just days after Mohammedan confirmed a squad of 24 players, including 18 members of last season’s team. With the addition of the five new recruits, the club have now secured 29 players for the upcoming campaign.

Mohammedan’s director of sports, Mostakur Rahman, said the club’s recruitment drive was being guided by a clear objective: winning the championship.

“We want to become champions this season. That is why we are building a strong squad. We have signed Saad, Fahim, Sohel Rana, Shahriar Emon and Shakil Ahad today. As a result, we now have 29 players confirmed,” he said, according to the original report.

The move for the four Bashundhara Kings players represents a significant strengthening of Mohammedan’s squad. Bashundhara Kings have established themselves as one of the dominant forces in Bangladeshi domestic football in recent seasons, making the arrival of players from the reigning champions particularly noteworthy.

Saad, meanwhile, confirmed that he had joined Mohammedan but indicated that he did not wish to discuss the move in detail at this stage. He was not available for further comment when contacted.

Mohammedan are also working on the foreign-player component of their squad. According to Mostakur Rahman, Uzbek player Mozaffarov, who represented the club last season, will remain with the team. The other three foreign-player positions are expected to be filled by new recruits.

The club are looking for players of a high standard and are preparing to send a delegation to Uzbekistan to assess potential signings. The initiative reflects Mohammedan’s intention to conduct a more targeted recruitment process rather than simply filling their foreign-player quota.

The club are also considering bringing in a coach from Uzbekistan. At the same time, discussions are reportedly under way with former Mohammedan coach Sean Lane, an Australian who previously worked with the Dhaka club.

The coaching decision will be another important part of Mohammedan’s preparations. With a squad that now includes a sizeable group of national-team players, the club will be expected to build a system capable of turning individual quality into consistent results throughout the season.

The latest recruitment drive signals a determined approach from the traditional Dhaka club. By bringing in four players from the reigning champions while retaining key members of last season’s squad, Mohammedan are building a team with both experience and international pedigree. Their final squad will take clearer shape once the foreign recruits and coaching arrangements are settled, but the club’s intention is already evident: they want to return to the top of Bangladeshi football and compete strongly for the championship.
