Prominent writer and political analyst Mohiyuddin Mohammad has sharply criticised Mahmudur Rahman, editor of Amar Desh newspaper, comparing him to the proverbial rural “white dog” that bites the hand that feeds it after eating. According to Mohiyuddin, it is his duty to protect the public from such deceitful and treacherous behaviour.
Mohiyuddin also provided detailed insights into the organisational efforts of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) during the July–August 2024 political unrest. He explained how BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman coordinated with party activists, district and thana-level student wings, and youth leagues to manage the movement. Mohiyuddin emphasised that the information is being shared purely for public awareness and not for political motives.
In a Facebook post, Mohiyuddin described that after the movement began in July 2024, BNP student and youth leadership divided Dhaka into ten operational zones, each assigned a zone commander and team members. Their responsibilities included mobilising students and party members from surrounding districts and providing them with food and water. Among the volunteers, Mirza Abbas coordinated the distribution of eight truckloads of water and two truckloads of food, with additional logistical support continuing over the course of the unrest.
He highlighted that during the protests, police at district and thana levels largely refrained from firing on students. In Baniachong, Habiganj, some officers attempted to exercise excessive authority, but intervention by the district police superintendent and local coordinators prevented escalation. Mohiyuddin also personally wrote to international officials to ensure the safety of students during the unrest.
Further, private universities, colleges, and individual teachers and students were engaged in managing accommodation, food, climate control, and medical care. Across Dhaka, thorough arrangements were made for the housing, feeding, and logistics of students and party activists.
The following table summarises the main operational responsibilities during the 2024 unrest:
| Aspect | Key Activities | Responsible Individuals/Groups |
|---|---|---|
| Dhaka Zone Division | 10 zones assigned to district student and youth wings | Zone commanders & team members |
| Food & Water Supply | Distribution via trucks | Mirza Abbas & party volunteers |
| District & Thana Coordination | Local leaders’ preparation & coordination | District committees & student/youth wings |
| Protest Security | Student protection by police | District police superintendent & colleagues |
| Medical Assistance | Treatment & clinic/hospital arrangements | BNP-aligned doctors & teachers |
| Dhaka Entry & Logistics | Accommodation and sustenance for hundreds of thousands | Rakib, Nasir, Aman Ullah & local activists |
Through these disclosures, Mohiyuddin Mohammad emphasises the critical importance of student safety, organisational coordination, and logistical management during political movements. He reiterated his commitment to continue revealing truthful information for the benefit of the nation and its citizens, irrespective of political consequences.
