Former England all-rounder Moeen Ali is set to make a much-anticipated return to domestic cricket, ending his brief retirement from the shorter formats. Ali has signed with Yorkshire County Cricket Club for the 2026 Vitality Blast season, with an option to extend his contract through the 2027 campaign.
Ali brings with him a wealth of experience and a proven record in T20 cricket. He played a pivotal role in Worcestershire’s first-ever Blast triumph in 2018 and has twice lifted the Indian Premier League title with Chennai Super Kings. Additionally, he captained Birmingham Phoenix to the final in the inaugural season of The Hundred.
Regarded as one of the most accomplished white-ball cricketers of his generation, Ali has participated in 420 T20 matches, amassing 7,792 runs and claiming 271 wickets. His highest score in the Vitality Blast is an impressive 121 runs. Representing England, he has featured in 92 T20 Internationals, scoring 1,229 runs—including seven half-centuries—and taking 51 wickets. Notably, he was part of England’s squads that won two ICC World Cups.

Speaking about joining Yorkshire, Ali said:
“I am thrilled to be playing for such a historic club as Yorkshire. Their vision for the team’s future is truly inspiring. Playing at Headingley has always been special, and I see this as a fresh challenge. I hope to contribute my experience to help the team succeed.”
Yorkshire finished eighth out of nine teams in the North Group last season and are yet to claim a Blast title. Despite losing key players such as David Malan and Jordan Thompson in the off-season, the club has strengthened its squad by recruiting Australians Sam Whiteman and Andrew Tye, alongside overseas players Naveen-ul-Haq and Logan van Beek.
Gavin Hamilton, Yorkshire’s General Manager of Cricket, said:
“Signing a world-class all-rounder like Moeen Ali is a major boost for us. His leadership and experience will bring new energy to our T20 side, and we are confident that his presence will make Yorkshire a stronger force in the Blast.”
With Ali back in action, Yorkshire will be hoping to transform their fortunes in the 2026 Vitality Blast, aiming to end their title drought and challenge for top honours in domestic T20 cricket.
