Today, Thursday, the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) in Dhaka will announce the verdict date for a case concerning crimes against humanity committed during the July Movement. The accused in the case include the former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, and former IGP (Inspector General of Police) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, who is involved as an approver or state witness.
On the same day, the Awami League has announced an online ‘lockdown’ programme. Following this announcement, at least 17 buses have been set on fire across the country in the past three days. Among these, 16 incidents occurred in and around the capital, including Savar and Gazipur. One person was killed in Fulbaria, Mymensingh. Additionally, there have been multiple incidents of cocktail bomb explosions; at least 22 such explosions have been reported across Dhaka over the past three days.
Security has been heightened at major entry points and key areas in the city due to both the verdict announcement and the Awami League lockdown activities. Police and law enforcement agencies are on high alert. Various political parties, including BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami, are also active in the city to ensure their programmes and presence.
Authorities have been vigilant across Dhaka since early morning, monitoring the situation to prevent violence or disorder.
