Semi-Decomposed Body of Teenage Girl Recovered from Locked House in Matlab

The police in Matlab South Upazila, Chandpur, have recovered the mysterious hanging body of a teenage girl named Seema Akter (18). On Thursday (27 November), the authorities recovered the remains from a residence in the Gobindpur area of the upazila. The discovery has caused significant concern in the locality as the house had remained locked for several days, leading many to believe that the girl had returned to the capital. Given the state of the body, officials suspect that the death occurred at least three to four days prior to the recovery.

According to police and local residents, Seema Akter was the daughter of Sofiq Topader from Gobindpur village in the Upadhi North Union. The family had been living in Dhaka for several years for work. Seema reportedly arrived at the village house alone from Dhaka on 23 November. Witnesses noted that she had opened the house and entered, but later, the villagers noticed the door was locked from the outside again. Most neighbours assumed she had finished her tasks and travelled back to Dhaka. However, her mother, unable to reach her and feeling anxious, travelled from Dhaka to the village on Thursday to search for her daughter. Upon unlocking the house, she was horrified to find Seema’s semi-decomposed body hanging from a ceiling beam with a rope around her neck.

Following her screams, neighbours rushed to the scene and promptly alerted the local authorities. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Matlab South Police Station, Saleh Ahmed, confirmed that a police team was dispatched to the site to secure the area and recover the body. The remains have been sent to the Chandpur General Hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause and time of death. An unnatural death case has been filed at the police station. Investigating officers are now looking into whether this was an act of suicide due to personal distress or if there were other underlying circumstances. The tragic incident has left the local community in a state of mourning and disbelief.
