In a major development in the attempted assassination of Sharif Osman bin Hadi, spokesperson of Inquilab Mancha and independent candidate for Dhaka-8, law enforcement authorities have identified the motorbike used in the attack. The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has also arrested the vehicle’s owner in connection with the case.
On Sunday, 14 December, the RAB confirmed the arrest of Abdul Hannan from the Mohammadpur area of the capital. According to RAB’s Director of Legal and Media Wing, Wing Commander MZM Entekhab Chowdhury, Hannan has been taken into custody and later handed over to the Pallton Police Station for further investigation. The motorbike in question bears the registration number 54-6375.
Investigators are examining whether Hannan was directly involved in the attack on Osman Hadi, whose condition remains critical. Hannan’s father, Md. Abul Kashem, resides in Chapainawabganj. Authorities have emphasised that a thorough probe is underway to determine the extent of Hannan’s participation.
The incident, which occurred on the night of 13 December, left Osman Hadi critically injured. A medical board overseeing his treatment at Evercare Hospital has confirmed that he remains in the hospital’s Critical Care Unit (CCU). Doctors report severe brain injury and lung trauma, although his kidney function has partially recovered following medical intervention.
The medical team added that Osman Hadi is currently under conservative management following surgical procedures, with all necessary support systems in place according to the Brain Protection Protocol. Once his condition stabilises, further imaging, including a repeat CT scan, may be conducted to assess recovery progress.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to a swift and thorough investigation. The arrest of the motorbike owner represents the first significant breakthrough in what remains a complex and high-profile case, which has drawn nationwide attention.
