In a startling series of events across the capital, multiple explosive devices have detonated in different parts of Dhaka, spreading panic among residents and prompting urgent police action — though, so far, no casualties have been reported.
The first of these explosions took place on Thursday evening just before 7 pm when a crude bomb exploded in front of the Fortune Market near Mouchak — an episode already widely reported and confirmed by local police.
However, this was not an isolated incident. At approximately 11:25 pm the same night, another similar device was detonated beneath the Moghbazar flyover, near a popular restaurant. Ramna Police Sub‑Inspector Md Abdul Quader detailed that this explosion occurred when an unknown individual or group hurled a crude bomb from the overpass towards the busy intersection below. Although there were no reported injuries, the explosion was loud enough to alarm diners and passersby, prompting emergency responses from police and local officials.
The string of blasts continued into the early hours of Friday when a third device was detonated in the Mohammadpur area on Zakir Hossain Road. Eyewitnesses reported seeing individuals on a motorcycle approach the site before the explosion occurred and then flee at speed. Initial police checks reportedly found no direct evidence of a crude bomb at the scene, but residents consistently reported hearing a loud blast and seeing the aftermath of an explosion.
Across all three incidents, the common thread remains that no confirmed injuries or deaths have occurred — a fact that has surprised many analysts, given that some of the explosions occurred in densely populated parts of the city during busy hours.
Authorities have responded with visible police deployments in affected areas, as well as coordination with intelligence units to review CCTV footage and trace those responsible. Police officials reassured the public that all necessary measures are being taken to bring the perpetrators to justice, but affirmed that investigations are still in early stages.
Residents in Moghbazar, Mouchak, and Mohammadpur have expressed shock and anxiety, with many raising concerns about public safety and speculating as to possible motives behind these successive blasts. While police have not attributed the attacks to any particular group or underline any specific motive, they are actively working with community members to gather leads and evidence that could unravel the incident’s origins.
The authorities’ swift investigative measures encompass gathering forensic evidence, reviewing security footage from private and business establishments, and interviewing witnesses. Local residents have been urged to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity to law enforcement promptly.
