Musical Film ‘Bhalobashi’ Marks Valentine’s Day Return

After a decade-long hiatus, Bangladeshi rock band Six has made a remarkable return to the music scene at the end of last year. The band first rose to prominence in 2012, winning the reality show Nescafé Get Set Rock, which showcased the country’s emerging young rock musicians. This Valentine’s Day, Six has gifted fans with a musical film titled ‘Bhalobashi’, released simultaneously across their YouTube channel, Spotify, and all major global streaming platforms last Friday at 8 p.m.

The film features one of the band’s earliest compositions, whose opening lines—

“Aaj ekhono achhi ami / Thakte chai aro kichu khon / Dekhte tomar nil noyon / Harab ami”

—were first aired on FM radio more than a decade ago. Despite its initial broadcast, the song was never commercially released, and the band’s trajectory stalled shortly thereafter. Now, for the first time, this previously unreleased song has been presented as a fully realised musical film.

Band’s Comeback Journey

The band’s bassist and leader, Rakibul Romans, revealed that in December 2015, Six had paused all activities, bringing their second album to a halt. However, from last year, the band began recording and releasing new music once again. Guitarist and producer Rezuan Ashraf, working from abroad, continues to contribute to production. The band plans to release single tracks one by one in the coming months.

Musical Film Drawn from Real Life

‘Bhalobashi’ was written and composed by drummer Arif Shishir, and it reflects a true story from his own life—a tale of love and separation. Romans explains, “When we considered revisiting this song, we immediately decided to produce a musical film that would bring the real story to life. Arif Shishir himself plays the lead role, as he has acting experience. We have intentionally avoided negative portrayals; instead, the film emphasises the enduring emotional connection between two people, even after they have gone their separate ways.”

The musical film was directed by Shaurin. Six recently released ‘Ei To Shomoy 2’, the first track from their long-awaited second album, with ‘Bhalobashi’ serving as the album’s second single. Fans and critics alike are anticipating that the heartfelt narrative and soulful music of ‘Bhalobashi’ will cement Six’s return as one of Bangladesh’s most beloved contemporary rock bands.
