A chilling discovery was made on Wednesday morning at the Lambari and Mitapnirsra beaches in Teknaf Sadar Union, where the bodies of a young man and woman were recovered under mysterious circumstances. Locals first spotted the bodies and promptly alerted the authorities, prompting a swift police response.
A team from Teknaf Model Police Station, led by Sub-Inspector Abdus Salam, reached the scene shortly after receiving the report. The officers retrieved the two bodies and transported them to the station, beginning formal investigative procedures.
Jalal Ahmed, a local fisherman who first spotted the deceased, expressed his suspicion: “The bodies do not appear to have drifted naturally from the sea. It seems likely that the crime took place elsewhere and the bodies were later dumped here.” Following his observation, local authorities have heightened security measures in the surrounding area.
According to Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Saiful Islam of Teknaf Model Police Station, the identities of the deceased remained unknown as of Wednesday afternoon. Both bodies were sent to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue, where forensic experts are preparing to determine the exact cause of death.
Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Alok Biswas noted that preliminary investigations suggest the victims may be of Rohingya origin. He commented: “This incident could be linked to human trafficking or a ransom-related killing. However, no visible signs of trauma have been found on the bodies. The true cause of death will only be confirmed after post-mortem examinations.”
Local administration and law enforcement have intensified search and patrol operations in the area. Residents have been urged to refrain from spreading unverified rumours to avoid panic.
