Mysterious Death of College Student in Capital

Tragedy struck in the heart of Dhaka on Saturday evening as the lifeless body of a university student was discovered hanging in a room on the fifth floor of a building in the bustling Hazaribagh area.

Police recovered the body of Anisha Ferdousi, 22, a local resident of Hazaribagh and the daughter of Jalil Rahman, from a room in the alley near the Tally Office. The incident occurred at approximately 5:30 pm, after which she was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in an unconscious state. Unfortunately, doctors at the emergency department declared her dead upon arrival.

Anisha was a fourth-year student in the Department of Computer Science at the Asian University of Bangladesh (IUB). She had recently completed her fourth semester and was preparing for the fifth. According to her father, she had secretly married without informing the family, a fact that only came to light in the afternoon. Following disagreements within the household over this matter, Anisha reportedly went to her room, locked the door, and later, her father found her hanging from a ceiling fan with a scarf around her neck. She was immediately taken to the hospital, but medical personnel confirmed that she had already passed away.

The officer-in-charge of the police camp at DMCH, Md. Faruk, confirmed the death citing doctors’ statements. He stated that the body has been kept in the hospital morgue and that Hazaribagh Police Station has been informed and is investigating the incident.

This tragic case highlights the growing concerns over youth mental health, family pressures, and the hidden struggles of students living in metropolitan areas. Authorities have urged families and communities to maintain open communication with young adults and to seek timely counselling support when needed.
