Narayanganj Police Arrest 22 in Night Raids

Narayanganj police have arrested 22 individuals, including 18 alleged drug dealers and users and four women accused of organised street robbery, following a coordinated overnight operation in the Siddhirganj area. The arrests were confirmed on Sunday afternoon, 2 February, through an official press release issued by Siddhirganj Police Station.

According to police officials, the operation began at around 7:30 pm on Saturday, 1 February, and continued until approximately 6:30 am on Sunday. During this period, law enforcement officers carried out targeted raids in several locations identified as crime-prone zones, including the Bihari Camp area, Ajibpur Sona Mia Field, Burma Stand, and West Sanarpar. These areas had reportedly been under police surveillance for some time due to repeated complaints related to drug trafficking and street crime.

Among those arrested on drug-related charges are Mohammad Al Amin (30), Dalim (35), Nasrin (30), Lutfar Dewan (40), Khandaker Wali Ullah Shawon (28), Palash (28), Mohammad Sayeed (48), Salma (28), Murad Hasan (22), Mohammad Monir Hossain (55), Mohammad Mohor Ali (56), Mohammad Milon (32), Mohammad Sujon (45), Mohammad Rubel (26), Abdur Razzak (45), Mohammad Jalal Hossain (48), Mohammad Khokon Mia (30), and Al Amin (20). Police stated that many of the detainees are known offenders, with previous cases related to narcotics registered against them.

During the raids, officers seized a substantial quantity of illegal drugs, including 153 packets of heroin, 870 grams of cannabis, and 30 yaba tablets. Based on the recovered contraband, four cases have been filed under the Narcotics Control Act. Investigators believe the seized drugs were intended for local distribution, contributing to the persistent drug problem in the area.

In a separate but related development, police detained four women accused of belonging to a so-called “Molom Party”, a group known for committing theft and robbery by distracting victims in crowded public places. The women were arrested in the Burma Stand area and identified as Shilpi Akhter (37), Nasrin Akhter (28), Nasima Begum (30), and Morsheda Begum (28). A gold chain weighing approximately 10 ana was recovered from their possession. Police records indicate that the women also have prior cases involving drug offences and snatching.

Inspector Abdul Barik, Officer-in-Charge of Siddhirganj Police Station, stated that the operation was part of an ongoing effort to curb drug abuse and street crime. He emphasised that such drives would continue to ensure public safety and restore confidence among local residents. “We are maintaining a zero-tolerance stance against narcotics and organised crime,” he said.

All 22 individuals arrested during the operation were produced before the court on Sunday, where further legal proceedings will determine their fate.
