Police in Narayanganj have detained seven individuals during a targeted overnight operation conducted on suspicion that they were preparing to carry out a coordinated robbery in different parts of the district. Authorities also recovered a number of tools allegedly intended for use in the planned offence.
The arrests were formally confirmed on Wednesday (2 April) through a press statement issued by Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Operations) Tarek Al Mehdi of the Narayanganj District Police.
According to law enforcement sources, the operation was carried out between 5:00 am and 7:00 am across several locations within the district. Acting on intelligence inputs, police teams launched simultaneous raids, apprehending the suspects while they were reportedly in the preparatory phase of organising a robbery.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the individuals were operating as part of a coordinated group. However, police have not yet disclosed the intended target, possible locations, or the scale of the planned operation, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation.
Officials further stated that materials typically associated with forced entry and burglary were seized during the arrests. These items have been taken into police custody and will be examined as part of the evidential process in the ongoing case.

Additional Superintendent of Police Tarek Al Mehdi confirmed that a case has been filed against the accused on charges relating to the preparation of robbery. He also stated that the arrested individuals have been produced before the court in accordance with standard legal procedures.
Police officials said initial questioning suggests the group may have been planning organised criminal activity in the area. However, investigators are continuing to verify the extent of their involvement, potential links to other offenders, and whether the suspects have any prior criminal history.
In response to the arrests, law enforcement authorities have increased patrols and surveillance in several sensitive areas of Narayanganj, particularly locations considered vulnerable to organised theft and robbery attempts.
The district police administration reiterated its commitment to maintaining public safety and law and order, warning that strict legal action will be taken against anyone found involved in planning or executing criminal offences. Authorities have also indicated that further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses and additional evidence is analysed.
