Narsingdi Police Arrest 19 in Major Drug Raid

In a sustained 24-hour operation in the Siddhirganj police precinct of Narsingdi, law enforcement authorities have apprehended 19 individuals involved in drug trafficking, theft, and gambling-related offences. The raid, conducted across multiple high-risk locations, also resulted in the seizure of a substantial quantity of illegal narcotics. Among the items confiscated were 157 packets of heroin, 200 grams of cannabis, and 15 yaba tablets.

According to police sources, the operation was part of a broader effort to maintain law and order in the district and to intensify anti-drug measures. The crackdown, which continued through Wednesday morning (11 March), targeted both known criminal hotspots and locations frequented by suspected offenders. Following the arrests, the individuals were charged under relevant legal statutes and presented before the local courts.

The special operation was spearheaded under the directives of Narsingdi Superintendent of Police, Mohammad Mizanur Rahman Munshi. A dedicated task force was formed, led by Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Abdul Barik, PPM, of Siddhirganj Police Station. The team systematically conducted raids throughout the day, focusing on drug dens, gambling hubs, and areas with high incidences of theft and other criminal activities.

Police investigations reveal that 13 of the arrested individuals were directly engaged in drug distribution and sales, some of whom have long-standing records of involvement in the local narcotics trade. The remaining six suspects were apprehended for offences related to theft, gambling, and other criminal acts.

Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Abdul Barik emphasised that all necessary legal procedures have been followed and reiterated that police operations to curb crime and drug trafficking would continue unabated. “Maintaining public safety and ensuring law and order in the area remains our top priority. Regular raids such as this one are a critical part of our strategy,” he stated.

Police officials have further noted that intelligence-led monitoring of the district has been heightened to prevent drug-related crimes. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities promptly to assist law enforcement efforts.
