Police in Siddhirganj, Narayanganj, have apprehended a major drug trafficker along with cash amounting to 18.65 lakh takas. The arrest was announced at a press briefing on Wednesday, 25 March, by Siddhirganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Abdul Barik.
According to OC Barik, the operation took place late on Tuesday night, 24 March, around 3:00 am at Shimrail Mor, where a passenger bus bound for Cox’s Bazar was intercepted. The primary suspect, Saidur Islam, a resident of Dakhanga South Kachhapia, Ramu, Cox’s Bazar, and son of Musa Ali, was apprehended while transporting drugs for sale in Siddhirganj.
OC Barik confirmed that during the arrest, authorities seized:
- Cash: 18,65,000 takas
- Heroin: 150 grams
- Methamphetamine tablets: 30 pieces
The police operation did not stop with Saidur’s arrest. Coordinated raids across various areas of Siddhirganj led to the detention of ten additional drug dealers. All were subsequently charged under the Narcotics Control Act and presented before the court.

OC Barik stated, “Saidur Islam was intercepted while attempting to sell drugs in bulk in Siddhirganj before returning to Cox’s Bazar. This operation has disrupted a significant supply chain and demonstrates our ongoing commitment to curbing illegal narcotics.”
The coordinated crackdown is part of Siddhirganj police’s intensified efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region, protect local communities, and ensure public safety. Officials emphasised that similar vigilance will continue to identify and apprehend narcotics offenders.
The operation underscores the growing challenges law enforcement faces in tackling drug distribution networks, while also highlighting the police’s proactive approach in dismantling organised crime in Narayanganj.
