“New Administrators Appointed in Six City Corporations”

The Government of Bangladesh has appointed new administrators to oversee six of the country’s city corporations, including the capital’s two major municipalities, Dhaka North and Dhaka South. The announcement was made official through a government notification issued on Sunday, 22 February 2026.

According to the notification, Md. Abdus Salam has been appointed as the administrator of Dhaka South City Corporation, while Md. Shafiqul Islam Khan will assume the role for Dhaka North City Corporation. These appointments come as part of a broader administrative reshuffle aimed at strengthening local governance ahead of upcoming municipal developments.

In addition to the Dhaka municipalities, four other city corporations have also received new administrators:

  • Gazipur City Corporation: Md. Shawkat Hossain Sarkar

The government notification cites the Local Government (City Corporation) (Amendment) Ordinance, 2024, specifically Section 25K(1), as the legal basis for these appointments. According to the ordinance, the appointed administrators will serve in a full-time capacity for their respective city corporations until either the corporation is fully constituted or further orders are issued by the government.
