The race for domestic supremacy across Europe’s five major football leagues has entered a decisive phase, with contrasting scenarios emerging in different competitions. In England, Arsenal appear to be pulling away from their closest challengers, while in Spain the battle between Barcelona and Real Madrid continues to intensify. Elsewhere, Inter Milan and Bayern Munich are steadily strengthening their grip on the Italian and German titles respectively, whereas the French Ligue 1 contest between Paris Saint-Germain and Lens is becoming increasingly dramatic.
With only a handful of matches remaining in most leagues, every dropped point could prove decisive in determining who will lift the trophies at the end of the season.

La Liga: Barcelona Maintain Narrow Control
Spain’s La Liga remains one of the most compelling title races in Europe. Barcelona and Real Madrid continue to push each other relentlessly, with the gap between the two sides standing at just four points with roughly ten matches left in the campaign.
Real Madrid briefly narrowed the deficit to a single point after an emphatic 4–1 victory over Elche on Saturday evening. However, Barcelona responded in dominant fashion the following night, defeating Sevilla 5–2 in a high-scoring encounter to restore their four-point cushion at the summit.
After 28 matches, Barcelona lead the standings with 70 points, while Real Madrid sit second on 66. Given the intense rivalry between the two clubs and the fine margins separating them, the title race is widely expected to remain open until the closing weeks of the season.
Premier League: Arsenal Closing in on Glory
In the English Premier League, Arsenal’s long wait for another league crown may finally be nearing its end. The North London side have not won the title for 22 years, yet their position at the top of the table now looks increasingly secure.
Much of this advantage has been aided by dropped points from defending champions Manchester City. Pep Guardiola’s side have failed to win their last two league fixtures, most recently drawing 1–1 against West Ham United.
City now have 61 points from 30 matches. Arsenal, meanwhile, strengthened their lead by defeating Everton 2–0 on the same night. After 31 matches, Mikel Arteta’s team have accumulated 70 points, leaving them nine points clear of City despite having played one additional match. Should Arsenal maintain their current consistency, they could soon turn long-held ambition into reality.
Serie A: Inter Still in Command
Italy’s Serie A title race has seen Inter Milan maintain their advantage despite a slight dip in form. Inter lost 1–0 to city rivals AC Milan in a previous match and then drew 1–1 with Atalanta on Saturday.
Although those results offered rivals a chance to close the gap, AC Milan failed to capitalise. They suffered a narrow 1–0 defeat against Lazio, effectively allowing Inter to retain their commanding position.
After 29 matches, Inter have collected 68 points, while AC Milan remain second with 60 points from the same number of games.
Bundesliga: Bayern March Ahead
In Germany’s Bundesliga, Bayern Munich remain firmly on course for another league title. Even though they dropped points in a 1–1 draw against Bayer Leverkusen, their nearest challengers Borussia Dortmund have yet to close the gap significantly.
Dortmund did secure a 2–0 victory over Augsburg, but Bayern still hold a comfortable nine-point advantage with eight matches remaining.
At present, Bayern have 67 points from 26 matches, while Dortmund have gathered 58 from the same number of fixtures. Unless Bayern suffer an unexpected collapse, they appear well positioned to extend their remarkable domestic dominance.
Ligue 1: PSG Feel Pressure from Lens
France’s Ligue 1 offers perhaps the tightest race of all. Paris Saint-Germain remain top of the table, but their lead has shrunk considerably due to Lens’ impressive form.
PSG did not play during the latest round of fixtures and therefore remain on 57 points from 25 matches. Lens took advantage by defeating Lorient 2–1 last Saturday, bringing their tally to 56 points from 26 matches.
With just a single point separating the two sides, the French title race promises a dramatic conclusion in the weeks ahead.
