The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has embarked on an unprecedented series of workshops with potential candidates, signalling meticulous preparation for the forthcoming parliamentary elections. Conducted over three consecutive days at the party’s Gulshan office, these sessions aimed to finalise nominations, provide strategic guidance, and train candidates for the operational challenges of election campaigns.
During the workshops, several previously announced candidates were conspicuously absent, hinting at potential changes in key constituencies. Sources suggest that such omissions were based on directives from the BNP high command. For example, candidates in Chattogram-6 and Jashore-6 were not called, while new faces such as Aslam Chowdhury in Chattogram-4 were included. In Lakshmipur-1 and Lakshmipur-4, Shahadat Hossain Selim and Ashraf Uddin Nizan were invited, confirming their candidacy under the party’s “paddy sheaf” symbol.
Each day of the workshops focused on constituency-specific strategies. Topics included the effective use of family, health, and agriculture cards to connect with voters, managing election agents, voter communication, and digital campaigning. Candidates were instructed on selecting capable polling and election agents, as well as designating social media managers to manage online outreach. The sessions aimed to ensure coordinated messaging and logistical preparedness across all constituencies.
Virtual addresses by BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman provided strategic oversight, emphasising the importance of voter engagement, accurate information dissemination, and maintaining organisational discipline. The workshops also included practical instructions on mapping voters, ensuring comprehensive outreach, and integrating allied party coordination.
Sources close to the BNP emphasised that the workshops represent a new approach in Bangladeshi electoral politics, where detailed training, strategic planning, and digital outreach are being systematically implemented.
