Newlywed’s Body Recovered from Husband’s Home After 24 Days of Marriage

A 21-year-old newlywed woman was found dead at her husband’s home in Faridpur district just 24 days after her marriage, prompting allegations of murder from her grieving family and sparking concern among local residents. Police have launched an investigation to determine whether the death was a case of suicide or foul play.

The deceased, Swapna Akter, was discovered hanging inside a room at her husband’s residence in Bashagari village under Dangi Union of Nagarkanda Upazila on Saturday morning (14 March). Officers from Nagarkanda Police Station recovered the body after being informed of the incident.

Swapna was the daughter of Hannan Molla of Thengamari village in Krishnapur Union of Sadarpur Upazila in Faridpur. According to family members and local sources, she had married Khayer Matubbar (25), son of Shawkat Matubbar of Bashagari village, only 24 days earlier.

Preliminary information from police and residents suggests that the incident may have occurred late on the night of Friday (13 March). Authorities initially suspect that the young woman may have died by hanging. However, the circumstances surrounding her death remain unclear.

Upon receiving the report, law enforcement officials visited the scene and recovered the body from a beam inside the house. A formal inquest report was prepared after the site was inspected by Assistant Superintendent of Police (Nagarkanda Circle) Mahamudul Hasan, Officer-in-Charge of Nagarkanda Police Station Rasul Samdani Azad, and Sub-Inspector Robiul Islam.

Police subsequently sent the body to the morgue for a post-mortem examination to determine the precise cause of death.

Officer-in-Charge Rasul Samdani Azad said the investigation is ongoing. “The body has been sent for autopsy to establish the actual cause of death. Once the report is received, we will be able to determine whether it was suicide or something else,” he said.

Meanwhile, police reported that Swapna’s husband, Khayer Matubbar, has been missing since the incident and is currently believed to be in hiding. Efforts are under way to locate him for questioning.

Local residents who saw the body claimed that there appeared to be marks on different parts of Swapna’s body. However, it remains unclear whether those marks were caused by injuries or other factors. Authorities say the post-mortem report will clarify the matter.

Swapna’s mother, Halima Begum, strongly rejected the possibility of suicide and alleged that her daughter had been murdered. She said she repeatedly tried to contact her son-in-law by phone on Friday night but received no response.

“I called my daughter’s husband many times last night, but he did not answer,” she said. “This morning we were told that my daughter had taken her own life. I do not believe that. My daughter has been killed.”

Her father, Hannan Molla, echoed the same accusation, claiming that the death had been staged to resemble suicide.

“They killed my daughter and then hung her to make it look like suicide,” he alleged. “I want justice for my daughter.”

The incident has created a stir in the local community, with residents demanding a thorough and impartial investigation. Police officials have assured that all aspects of the case will be examined and legal action will be taken if any wrongdoing is established.
