Nicki Minaj–Lemon Clash Ignites ICE Debate

A fierce public dispute has erupted between music superstar Nicki Minaj and journalist Don Lemon, triggered by coverage of a church-based protest against the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency (ICE). What began as a report on a local demonstration has rapidly escalated into a wider cultural and political confrontation, amplifying tensions around immigration policy, media responsibility, and celebrity influence in public discourse.

The episode centres on a protest that took place at City Church in Saint Paul, Minnesota. During a live religious service, demonstrators entered the church and interrupted proceedings with chants demanding an end to ICE operations. Lemon broadcast the scene via livestream, capturing protesters shouting “ICE out” and vowing to disrupt what they described as “business as usual”. Their principal grievance was directed at Pastor David Easterwood, whom they alleged simultaneously serves as the acting director of ICE’s Saint Paul Field Office. She alleged that a 37-year-old woman named Reni Goode had been shot and killed earlier this month by an ICE officer. While the circumstances of the death were cited as emblematic of protesters’ anger, the claim added emotional weight to the protest and intensified public scrutiny of ICE’s conduct.

Following Lemon’s broadcast, Minaj launched a series of aggressive social media posts aimed at the journalist. Her comments, which included mocking imagery and language, were widely criticised as offensive and, by some observers, homophobic. The backlash was swift.
