Rap superstar Nicki Minaj has temporarily stepped back from social media, deactivating her Instagram account following a recent appearance at Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest.
As of Wednesday, 24 December, the 43-year-old artist’s Instagram page displayed the message: “Sorry, this page isn’t available.” This move comes amid public scrutiny after Minaj sat down with Erika Kirk, wife of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk, for an interview in Phoenix on 21 December. Representatives for Minaj have not yet commented, and Billboard has reached out for official statements.
Minaj is no stranger to social media hiatuses, having previously deleted her Instagram account in October. Fans quickly noted the pattern, interpreting it as a temporary withdrawal rather than a permanent exit.
The interview sparked controversy when Minaj praised both former President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance, calling them “amazing role models.” In a moment of confusion, she referred to Vance as an “assassin,” likely alluding inadvertently to the September political killing of Charlie Kirk in Utah, which Governor Spencer Cox termed a “political assassination.” Erika Kirk promptly reassured Minaj, saying: “Trust me, there’s nothing new under the sun that I have not heard. So you’re fine. I love you.”
Following the interview, fellow entertainer Amber Rose defended Minaj, arguing that support for Trump did not equate to alienation of the LGBTQ+ community. She told TMZ: “She didn’t say anything wrong. She didn’t say anything about the LGBTQ+ community at all. Why do people think anyone over there is homophobic?”
Vice President JD Vance also highlighted a thoughtful point Minaj made during the conversation: that empowering one community does not require diminishing another. On X, he paraphrased her remark: “Just because I want little black girls to think they’re beautiful doesn’t mean I need to put down little girls with blonde hair and blue eyes.”
In recent months, Minaj has increasingly engaged in political discourse. She has spoken out against the alleged persecution of Christians in Nigeria, culminating in an address at a United Nations event in November.
