In Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, India, at least nine people were killed and twenty-nine injured on Friday night when explosives seized at Nowgaon Police Station detonated during testing. The majority of the deceased were police officers and forensic team members, with two Srinagar administration officials also losing their lives on site.
Authorities stated that the explosives had recently been recovered from Faridabad in Haryana and transported to Nowgaon Police Station. During attempts to test and defuse the materials, a sudden and powerful explosion occurred. Many of the injured are in critical condition and have been admitted to the Indian Army’s 92 Base Hospital and the Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS).
Following the incident, senior police officials arrived at the Nowgaon area to begin investigations. The entire site has been cordoned off while authorities work to determine the exact cause of the explosion. Police and local administration are assisting the affected families and have announced plans to strengthen safety measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
