The Minister of Road Transport, Railways and Shipping, Sheikh Robiul Alam, has assured the public that fuel prices will remain unchanged ahead of the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays. He clarified that authorities will not allow any potential fuel shortage to disrupt holiday travel or provide an excuse for increased transport fares.
According to the minister, the country’s current fuel reserves are sufficient and safely stored. Steps have been taken to ensure uninterrupted fuel supply to buses and other public transport services, enabling smooth travel during the festive period.
“There will be no difficulties for travellers due to fuel shortages. Operators have no authority to charge passengers extra fares,” Sheikh Robiul Alam said.
The minister also highlighted ongoing government initiatives to modernise the capital’s public transport network. The metro rail service has already become a vital component of Dhaka’s urban mobility. Future plans include integration of the metro with other public transport modes, including monorail and bus systems, to create a more efficient and commuter-friendly network. Policy-level decisions have been taken for phased implementation, ensuring long-term improvements in connectivity and convenience.
Fuel Reserves Overview
| Fuel Type | Reserve Level | Safety Status | Purpose & Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Petrol | 150,000 kilolitres | Secure & adequate | Covers peak demand during Eid travel |
| Diesel | 200,000 kilolitres | Secure & adequate | Ensures supply for buses and logistics |
| LPG (Cooking Gas) | 50,000 tons | Stable | No disruption expected for households |
Sheikh Robiul Alam emphasised that these measures are part of a broader strategy to improve Dhaka’s transportation system, reduce traffic congestion, and make commuting more efficient and affordable for residents.
With the fuel supply secured and the transport network gradually being modernised, commuters can look forward to a hassle-free and cost-stable travel experience during the Eid festivities. The government’s proactive approach aims to safeguard public convenience while laying the groundwork for a sustainable urban transport system in the future.
