Nora Fatehi’s Song Faces Ban Amid Controversy

Bollywood actress Nora Fatehi has found herself at the centre of a heated controversy as her latest song, “Sarke Chunari Teri Sarke”, has been officially banned in India. Featuring veteran actor Sanjay Dutt, the track has attracted widespread criticism since its release, ultimately prompting the Indian central government to impose restrictions on its distribution.

The song is part of the soundtrack for the film Kedi: The Devil. Reports suggest that both its lyrics and visual presentation triggered strong negative reactions from certain sections of the audience, leading authorities to prohibit its public exhibition.

Nora Fatehi’s Response

Amid the growing debate, Nora Fatehi released a video statement to clarify her position. She explained that she had no prior knowledge of the Hindi adaptation of the song. Nearly three years ago, she had filmed the original Kannada-language track, “Sarsi Ninna”, agreeing to participate due to its high production budget and the opportunity to work alongside Sanjay Dutt.

Nora emphasised that she had not anticipated that the track would later be released in Hindi under the title “Sarke Chunari Teri Sarke”, nor that its lyrics could provoke such widespread criticism. She stated:

“I never imagined that the presentation and words of this song would lead to such controversy. I do not wish anyone to think that I endorse indecent or contentious content. In response to public outrage, the producers were compelled to remove the song from various digital platforms.”

She further appealed to her fans to consider the original context of the song and to avoid sharing it online:

“Please understand the original background of the song. Avoid misunderstandings and refrain from circulating it further.”

Public Debate Continues

Despite Nora’s clarification, the controversy has not entirely subsided. Critics maintain that the visuals and lyrics are inappropriate, while supporters argue that the backlash is largely the result of translation and adaptation issues, emphasising the importance of understanding the song’s original context.
