The victim, Sajib Hossain, 30, son of Munser Ali and a resident of North Putail village under Putail Union, was fatally wounded during the incident, which took place in the early hours of Sunday. Investigators are initially treating the killing as the possible outcome of a long-standing feud, although officials have stressed that the exact motive will only be confirmed after a full investigation.
According to local sources and police, Sajib was staying at the residence of Lutfar Rahman in North Putail village when the attack occurred. At approximately 1:30 a.m., a large group estimated to comprise between 100 and 150 individuals reportedly arrived at the property. Witnesses claimed that several members of the group were armed with sharp weapons and forcibly entered the premises before launching an assault.
Residents familiar with the incident said the attackers appeared to have specifically targeted Sajib. He sustained multiple severe injuries from sharp weapons and was declared dead at the scene. The scale of the attack reportedly created panic throughout the village, with many residents remaining indoors out of fear for their safety.
Police officers arrived at the scene shortly after receiving reports of the violence and worked to restore order in the area. The victim’s body was later recovered and sent to the morgue of Manikganj Medical College Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Authorities expect the autopsy findings to provide additional details regarding the nature of the injuries and the precise cause of death.
Law enforcement officials have launched an investigation focusing on the possibility that the killing stemmed from a prolonged dispute between rival groups or individuals. Efforts are underway to identify all those involved in the attack, and police have begun conducting raids aimed at apprehending suspects.
Officer-in-Charge Ekram Hossain of Manikganj Sadar Police Station stated that preliminary findings suggest the murder may have been linked to previous hostilities. However, he emphasised that investigators are examining all available evidence before reaching any definitive conclusions. He added that police are working to identify the perpetrators and bring them before the courts as quickly as possible.
The incident has heightened concerns among local residents, who described the scale of the alleged assault as highly unusual for the area. Community members have urged authorities to ensure a thorough investigation and to strengthen security measures in order to prevent further violence. Local people expressed hope that those responsible will be held accountable and that normal conditions can soon be restored in the village.
