Over 100,000 Yaba Tablets Seized at Border

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized a large consignment of yaba tablets during an anti-smuggling operation in the Naikhongchhari border area of Bandarban district, underscoring ongoing concerns over cross-border narcotics trafficking along the Myanmar frontier.

The seizure, carried out on Monday evening at around 7 pm, took place in the Jaruillachhari border region, specifically in an area locally known as the Kajubadam garden. Acting on intelligence and routine surveillance, personnel from the 11 BGB Battalion positioned themselves near Border Pillar 47/3-S, within Bangladesh territory close to the international boundary.

According to a press release issued by Lieutenant Colonel Md Fayzul Kabir, commanding officer of the battalion, BGB members were stationed strategically in the area to monitor suspected movement across the porous border. During the operation, a group of smugglers entered Bangladesh from Myanmar carrying a consignment of yaba tablets.

On sensing the presence of the border force, the individuals abandoned the shipment and fled back towards the border. The patrol team immediately searched the area and recovered 100,790 yaba tablets packed in 10 separate cartons.

Border areas in Naikhongchhari have long been identified as vulnerable corridors for drug trafficking, particularly involving yaba, which is widely smuggled from Myanmar into Bangladesh. The difficult terrain, dense vegetation and proximity to the international boundary often provide cover for illicit cross-border activities.

Security officials have repeatedly increased patrols and surveillance in the region in response to persistent trafficking attempts. The latest seizure adds to a series of similar operations conducted in recent months, reflecting the continued pressure faced by border security forces in curbing narcotics inflows.

Authorities confirmed that the recovered consignment will be handed over to the relevant police station for further legal proceedings. Investigations are expected to focus on identifying the network behind the attempted smuggling operation.

While no arrests were made during this incident, officials say intelligence gathering and coordinated operations remain central to disrupting organised trafficking networks operating along the Bangladesh–Myanmar border.
