Over 300 NCP Members Join BNP Under Former Organising Secretary’s Leadership

In a significant political development, over 300 members of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP) from Khagrachhari district have formally joined the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) under the leadership of the party’s former district organising secretary, Biplob Tripura. The official induction ceremony took place on Monday afternoon at the Khagrachhari district BNP office.

Addressing the gathering, Biplob Tripura explained the motivation behind the mass shift:

“The NCP has formed an alliance with Jamaat-e-Islami for the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Elections, a decision we find unacceptable. Consequently, we have chosen to join the BNP. This move is voluntary and deliberate, inspired by the ideals of the late Begum Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman. We aim to uphold democratic principles and work towards strengthening the party at the grassroots level.”

The newly joined members were warmly welcomed by Wadud Bhuiya, president of the Khagrachhari district BNP, who presented them with floral bouquets. Speaking at the event, he said:

“I sincerely thank you for joining the BNP of your own accord. Your support strengthens our unity. In the forthcoming parliamentary elections, I urge all members to work together in harmony to achieve our common goals.”

The event was presided over by Onimesh Chakma Rinku, deputy secretary of the district BNP, and attended by other senior leaders, including Prabin Chandra Chakma, vice-president, and M.N. Absar, general secretary, along with representatives from various BNP-affiliated organisations in the district.

Political analysts suggest that this influx of members could considerably enhance the BNP’s organisational strength in Khagrachhari ahead of the elections. The move is seen as an effort to consolidate support among local communities and reinforce the party’s presence in a region where grassroots engagement is crucial.
