Over Tk 4 Lakh Collected from Ticketless Travellers in Eastern Railway Drive

A special inspection drive conducted by Travel Ticket Examiners (TTEs) on the Eastern Railway route has successfully collected Tk 4.14 lakh in fares and fines from passengers travelling without valid tickets in a single day. Of this total, Tk 2.77 lakh was recovered as fares, while Tk 1.36 lakh was imposed as fines, railway officials reported.

The operation, confirmed by Md Subaktogin, General Manager of the Eastern Railway, took place on Sunday across 70 trains and involved a coordinated effort by 105 TTEs. The drive aimed to curb fare evasion, ensure compliance with railway regulations, and promote a culture of accountability among passengers.

During the inspections, tickets of 3,140 passengers were checked, and 1,196 travellers were found travelling without valid tickets and subsequently fined. Authorities emphasised that these efforts are part of an ongoing campaign to enhance revenue collection while maintaining operational discipline across the network.

“Such drives are essential to deter fare evasion and to ensure that all passengers adhere to railway regulations,” Subaktogin said. “The active participation of our TTEs demonstrates our commitment to upholding fairness and accountability on all services.”

Railway officials further stressed that regular inspections not only help protect revenue but also contribute to the safety and smooth functioning of train services. Passengers are strongly encouraged to purchase tickets in advance and retain them throughout their journey to avoid fines and disruptions.
