The body of the main suspect in a widely reported five-member family murder case has been recovered from the Padma River, bringing a dramatic development to an incident that had shocked the entire country. The accused, Forqan Miah, had been at the centre of a brutal killing in Kapasia under Gazipur.
Police confirmed that his body was recovered on Thursday, 14 May, from the river. Authorities have not yet officially clarified the exact circumstances surrounding his death, and further investigation is underway to determine whether it was an accident, suicide, or the result of foul play.
The case first came to national attention after the horrific killing of five members of the same family, including Forqan’s wife, three young daughters, and his brother-in-law. The murders reportedly took place on the night of Friday, 9 May, inside a rented residence in the Rautkona area of Kapasia.
According to police sources and preliminary findings, the victims were allegedly drugged before being attacked. Investigators believe a sedative substance may have been mixed with food consumed by the family prior to the killings. After the victims became incapacitated, they were reportedly attacked with a sharp weapon. Forqan Miah was named as the prime accused shortly after the discovery of the bodies, along with several unidentified suspects.
On the morning following the incident, local residents alerted authorities after noticing unusual silence at the residence. Police later recovered all five bodies from the scene and sent them to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examinations.
A formal murder case was filed on Saturday, 10 May, by the father of the deceased wife at Kapasia Police Station. The complaint named Forqan Miah as the primary accused and included several unknown individuals as co-accused.
