Passenger Arrested for Luggage Theft at Airport

A passenger, Arman Hossain, has been arrested and sentenced for stealing luggage at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Dhaka. The arrest was made by Aviation Security (AVSEC) at midnight on Monday, 24 November, confirmed Muhammad Kawser Mahmud, Assistant Director of the PR Division of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, to Dhaka Post on Tuesday.

According to officials, Arman was apprehended while preparing to depart from Dhaka to Jeddah on Monday night. Investigations revealed that the passenger had a history of theft at the airport. On 3 November, Arman arrived in Dhaka from Riyadh on Saudi Airlines flight SV-806. After completing immigration procedures, he approached Belt No. 2, where luggage for US-Bangla Airlines passengers was being distributed. There, he unlawfully took two pieces of luggage and left the airport premises.

Arman committed another similar act on 9 November, when he stole an additional piece of luggage from a different belt. These repeated actions prompted an investigation by airport security. Following verification of the incidents through CCTV footage and witness statements, Arman Hossain was presented before an Executive Magistrate’s court.

After reviewing the evidence, the magistrate sentenced Arman to one year of rigorous imprisonment, highlighting the seriousness of the criminal acts and the need to maintain security at Dhaka’s busiest airport.
