In a shocking incident in Syedpur, Nilphamari, a suspected fraudster attacked members of the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) while also vandalising a microbus, leaving two officers seriously injured.
The confrontation occurred on Tuesday afternoon, 3 February, outside Khaled Market on Shaheed Dr. Zikrul Haque Road in Syedpur town. The assailant, identified as Mohsin Ali Montu, is a resident of Munshipara neighbourhood within Syedpur municipality and operates a garment business in the same market. Montu is currently facing charges in a fraud case.
According to police and local sources, a PBI team from Narayanganj had arrived in Syedpur to arrest Montu at his business premises. When the officers attempted to detain him, Montu shouted that they were “fake DB police,” which incited nearby traders and passers-by to intervene, resulting in chaos. During the melee, the PBI microbus was vandalised, and the team’s attempt to apprehend Montu initially failed.
Syedpur police soon arrived at the scene and assisted the PBI officers, transporting the injured to the 100-bed Syedpur Hospital for medical attention. Both officers are currently under intensive care.
Syedpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Rezaul Karim Reza stated, “The PBI team had come to arrest Mohsin Ali Montu in connection with a case registered at Fatulla Police Station in Narayanganj. Due to his claim of being a fake DB officer, local residents attacked our personnel and damaged the vehicle. Legal action is underway, and efforts to apprehend the fugitive suspect continue.”
Local residents and traders’ involvement in the attack briefly disrupted law and order, though the police swiftly intervened to restore stability. The PBI and local police are now working jointly in a special operation to locate and arrest the fugitive.
