A petrol bomb was reportedly thrown at a moving train near Jamtoil Railway Station in Sirajganj, though no casualties were reported. The incident occurred on Wednesday, 19 November, at around 11:00 pm, in the Kobadshahkh area as the Chitra Express, travelling from Dhaka to Khulna, passed through the station.
The Officer-in-Charge of Sirajganj Railway Police Station, Dulal Uddin, confirmed the incident on Thursday morning (20 November). However, by 2:00 pm on Thursday, no official case had been filed regarding the attack.
Abu Hannan, the Station Master of Jamtoil Railway Station, explained that the petrol bomb struck the engine of the Chitra Express. “Fortunately, no one was injured,” he said, “but there was some damage to the train. It is still unknown who is responsible or whether this was carried out by an organised group.”
The incident has raised concerns over railway security, particularly for trains operating on long-distance routes. Locals and passengers expressed alarm at the potential danger posed by such attacks, which could have caused serious casualties if the timing or location had been different.
Abdul Latif, the Officer-in-Charge of Kamarkhand Police Station, said, “I have just received information about the incident today. I do not know who carried it out. Since this involves the railway, the GRP (Government Railway Police) will have more details.”
Authorities have indicated that an investigation is underway, with railway police examining the scene and train damage to identify possible perpetrators. CCTV footage from nearby stations and witness statements are expected to play a key role in the investigation.
