Police have initially identified one individual in connection with the shooting of Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of the Inqilab Mancha and an independent parliamentary candidate for the Dhaka-8 constituency. A photograph of the suspected person involved in the incident has been released, and the public has been requested to inform the police if anyone has any information about him. At the same time, law enforcement authorities have announced that the identity of informants will be kept confidential and that a suitable reward will be given for effective information.
These details were disclosed in a press release issued by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Saturday (13 December). The press release stated that if anyone possesses reliable or confirmed information regarding the suspect involved in the attack, they are requested to inform the police immediately. It was further mentioned that the identity of the person providing information would be fully protected and that a suitable reward would be awarded if the information proves to be accurate and helpful to the investigation.
According to the DMP, on Friday (12 December), Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of the Inqilab Mancha, was seriously injured in an attack carried out by motorcycle-borne assailants in the Bijoynagar Box Culvert area of the capital. Following the incident, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police launched an intensified operation across the capital to identify and arrest those responsible for the attack. Considering the seriousness and sensitivity of the incident, multiple police teams have been deployed and are actively working on the ground, the press release said.
The press release also noted that CCTV footage from the area surrounding the scene of the incident, including moments during and immediately after the attack, was collected and analysed in detail. Through careful examination of this footage, police were able to initially identify one individual visible in the images. Law enforcement authorities believe that the person identified may be connected to the attack on Sharif Osman Hadi. Efforts are currently underway to arrest the suspect as quickly as possible, with police and other law enforcement personnel remaining actively engaged in the operation.
The DMP further stated that anyone who has information about the suspect’s identity, whereabouts or movements is requested to contact the police without delay. In particular, members of the public who have confirmed information about the suspect’s current location, travel patterns or place of shelter have been urged to come forward. For this purpose, the police have requested that such information be communicated promptly to the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Motijheel at 01320040080, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Paltan at 01320040132, or the national emergency service number 999.
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police also emphasised that public cooperation is extremely important in bringing the attackers swiftly under the purview of the law. Any information related to the incident, they said, could play a vital role in advancing the investigation. The police have therefore called upon all concerned citizens to assist law enforcement authorities by sharing any relevant information they may have regarding the suspect or the attack.
