A 95-year-old woman has been killed in Manikganj after allegedly being attacked by her mentally ill daughter, in an incident that took place in the Harirampur upazila of the district.
The incident occurred at around 10:30 am on Tuesday (9 June) in the village of Madhyadhusuria under Gala Union. The deceased has been identified as Rizia Begum (95), wife of the late Sobhan of Madhyadhusuria village. The accused is her daughter, Rokeya Begum (60), wife of the late Malek of Hatipara area in Manikganj Sadar upazila.
According to local and family sources, Rokeya Begum had been suffering from mental instability for a prolonged period. On the morning of the incident, an altercation reportedly took place between the mother and daughter at their residence over an unspecified matter. During the dispute, Rokeya Begum allegedly used a sharp kitchen cleaver (boti) to strike her mother on the head. Rizia Begum died at the scene from the injuries sustained.
Following the incident, Rokeya Begum informed her elder brother, Mofazzal Hossain, and his son, Rasel, that their mother had died. As the news spread, neighbours visited the house and found the body of Rizia Begum lying on a bed in a blood-stained condition. The matter was subsequently reported to the police, who arrived at the scene and recovered the body.
The police later prepared an inquest report and sent the body to Manikganj Sadar Hospital morgue for post-mortem examination.

Officer-in-Charge of Harirampur Police Station, Md Afzal Hossain, confirmed the incident and stated that police responded promptly after receiving information. He added that the body was recovered from the scene, an inquest report was prepared, and it was sent to the Manikganj Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
He further confirmed that the accused, Rokeya Begum, was detained from her residence shortly after the incident. Legal proceedings are in progress and a case is being prepared in connection with the killing.
