Pond Watchman Killed in Shibganj, Left Eye Gouged Out

A 65-year-old pond watchman, Tujammel Haque Toju, was allegedly murdered near Nunia Pond in Muslimpur village, Shibganj, Chapainawabganj, in a shocking act of violence that has left the local community reeling. Toju, a resident of Pardilalpur village, Shahabazpur Union, was found dead on Thursday morning, according to family members and police reports.

His son, Nafiullah, 25, recounted that his father had been on duty guarding the pond during the night when unknown assailants attacked him. Nafiullah discovered the body the following morning. The family emphasised that there were no known disputes or enemies, leaving the motive for the killing unclear. Local residents assisted in retrieving the body from the scene.

Chapainawabganj Police Superintendent Gautam Kumar Biswas confirmed that the body bore multiple injuries, including the gruesome gouging of the left eye. The body was subsequently transported to the district hospital morgue for autopsy.

The police have launched a formal investigation and assured the public that they are working diligently to identify and apprehend the suspects. Superintendent Biswas stressed that the investigation is a priority, and law enforcement is employing all available resources to bring those responsible to justice.
