Popularity of political parties will be tested in next polls: Quader, Obaidul Quader, general secretary of the Awami League, stated today that elections are the true test of a political party’s popularity rather than gatherings in the public. “BNP is making falsehood at their rallies, while it is trying to prove its popularity by gathering people. But the next elections will prove which party is more popular in the country,” he told journalists after a function at Cumilla cantonment here.

The occasion was planned to coincide with Armed Forces Day. Speaking as the chief guest, Quader recalled the sacrifices made by brave freedom fighters and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the greatest Bangalee of all time. He claimed that in addition to carrying out their professional responsibilities in addressing any national disaster, creating infrastructure, helping people, preventing terrorism and militancy in the Chattogram Hill Tracts, and assisting the civil government, the Armed Forces also contribute to various development initiatives of the country.
Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, said the Armed Forces are brightening the country’s image in the international arna by faithfully discharging their duties in the United Nations peace missions. He said the present government is strengthening the forces with modern military equipment aiming to modernize and expand those.
Advocate Abul Hasem Khan, Badruddoza M. Farhad Hussain, Nasimul Alam Nazarul, Md. Nurul Amin Ruhul, Md. Nizam Hazari, Md. Abdul Haque, Anjum Sultana Sima, Aroma Dutta, Umme Fatema Nazma Begum, and Farida Alam Saki are legislators. Mufizur Rahman Bablu, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Kamrul Hasan, Superintendent of Police Faraq Ahmed, courageous liberation fighters, and relatives of army dead were in attendance.
