In a significant administrative shake-up aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and strengthening oversight, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) has transferred and reassigned a total of 38 senior and mid-level officials of the Bangladesh Customs Department. The reshuffle includes officials ranging from commissioners to assistant commissioners and affects postings both in Dhaka and at customs houses across the country.
According to official notifications, the transfers were formalised through five separate gazette orders issued by the NBR. One of these orders was issued on Tuesday, 3 February, while the remaining four were issued on Thursday, 5 February. The orders collectively underscore a coordinated effort by the revenue authority to rebalance responsibilities and reinforce administrative dynamism within the customs administration.
Among those transferred are three commissioners, four joint commissioners, five additional commissioners, eight deputy commissioners and eighteen assistant commissioners. Officials have been moved either from Dhaka to various customs houses nationwide or from regional customs stations back to the capital, indicating a two-way redistribution of expertise and leadership.
The three commissioners affected by the reshuffle are Abul Bashar Md Shafikur Rahman, Md Mahafuzur Rahman (currently in charge), and Md Jakin Hossain (currently in charge). Their reassignment is seen as particularly significant, given the strategic importance of the commissioner-level posts in policy implementation, revenue collection and enforcement.
The four joint commissioners transferred are Md Al Amin, Suman Das, Majedul Haque and Mohibur Rahman Bhuiyan. At the level of additional commissioner, the officials moved are Kamonashish, Mohammad Selim Sheikh, Rakibul Hasan, Minhaj Uddin and Abdul Rashid Mia. These roles are crucial in supervising operational units and ensuring compliance with customs regulations.
Eight deputy commissioners have also been reassigned. They are Mohammad Saifur Rahman, Prabhat Kumar Singh, Nurun Nahar Lily, Tanzila Yasmin, Jobaida Khanam, Rabindra Kumar Singh, Md Mashur Rahman and Ali Reza Haider. Deputy commissioners typically play a pivotal role in day-to-day enforcement, assessment and clearance activities at ports and customs houses.
At the assistant commissioner level, the largest group of officials has been transferred. They include Shubhra Deb Mondal, Apurba Saha, Abdus Sattar, Faisal Ahmed, Md Shawkat Hossain, Dipu Ram Roy, Samia Nishat, Md Ayyub, Firoz Hossain Biswas, Asibul Haque, Rebekah Sultana Rima, Abu Saleh Abdun Noor, Minhaj Uddin Ahmed Sourav, Md Shahadat Hossain, Md Abdullah, AKM Jamiul Alam, Abdus Salam and Mostafa Kamal.
Officials familiar with the matter note that such large-scale reshuffles are not uncommon within the customs administration and are often undertaken to prevent stagnation, reduce the risk of undue influence, and align manpower with evolving operational needs, particularly at busy ports and revenue-sensitive stations.

The NBR has not publicly elaborated on the specific reasons for each individual transfer. However, the scale and scope of the changes suggest a broader strategy to strengthen customs governance, improve revenue performance and ensure more effective enforcement across the country’s customs network.
