A shocking act of violence in Comilla’s Burichang upazila left a young pregnant woman dead and three others seriously injured following a trivial family dispute over a discarded diaper. The victim, Fahima Akter (25), a mother of two and wife of Jahirul Islam from Chutna village in Debidwar, had been visiting her parental home for the past week when the incident occurred.
According to local sources and eyewitnesses, the horrific attack took place around 2:00 pm on Sunday (11 January) at Fahima’s family residence in Jagatpur Nagarbari, Burichang. The confrontation began when Fahima argued with her cousin, Said Siam, over the disposal of a child’s used diaper in the courtyard. The argument quickly escalated, and shortly after Fahima went inside her house to bathe, Said Siam returned with four to five accomplices armed with sharp weapons.
Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants attacked Fahima indiscriminately, inflicting severe injuries. Her screams drew the attention of relatives, including her uncle Abu Taher, cousin Iqbal Hossain, and brother-in-law Shahjalal, who rushed to intervene but were also brutally assaulted by the attackers.
Local residents quickly transported the injured to Burichang Upazila Health Complex. Unfortunately, attending doctors pronounced Fahima dead on arrival. The three other victims, all seriously wounded, were transferred to Comilla Medical College Hospital for advanced medical care.
Confirming the incident, Officer-in-Charge of Burichang Police Station, Mohammad Lutfor Rahman, stated that the body had been recovered from the hospital and police were actively working to maintain law and order in the area.
